I use ad block, in the cave and everywhere. It works great. Until today. For the first time, on the individual dragon pages, I am seeing TJ's annoying message.

Are you getting this too? And why is adblock not blocking it?


(Argh, posting pictures here is a pain. I love DW but LJ makes that part of things so much easier. *grin*)

ETA - Sorry for the size. :( I don't kow how to fix the size since DW only accepts urls from the internet, so I can't pick a posting size for the image.

I don't see it. I use Adblock Plus 2.2.4, Flashblock 1.5.17 and NO Google Analytics 0.5. All for Firefox

Hm, I know when TJ's anti-blocking banner first started showing up, AdBlock didn't block it. Then eventually I downloaded AdBlock's main subscription filter and it did block the banner as well as ads. (I don't use AdBlock any more, because it chokes my browser. I use Flashblock instead, which blocks the annoying animated ads and leaves the [mostly] less offensive static ads.)

Okay, I went and enabled AdBlock, and I'm looking at the Cave and I'm not seeing TJ's banner. Are you using any of AdBlock's filters, or are you setting up your own filters? As I recall, TJ uses rotating image names on his banners so you can't simply block the banner, and it's from his static.technoized.com domain, so you can't block the whole domain, either, or you end up stuff you need to use the Cave. I don't know how the filter works to block it... let me investigate...

Okay, the filter I'm using is EasyList, from here: https://easylist.adblockplus.org/en/

It's a huge list of stuff that it blocks, but I found that it's blocking "dragcave.net###prefooter" which must be the CSS element that contains the ads and the banner. Try subscribing to EasyList, or just adding that line to your filters and see what happens.

I've been experimenting since I posted. Yesterday I added Do Not Track Me as a FF add on and that seems to be what TJ's site is picking up and bugging me over. If I toggle it off that banner goes away. And comes back when I toggle it on. I'm not sure if it bugs me enough to create an exception for DC. I am not a fan of being tracked by any site, and when it is turned on it shows that it is blocking 2 companies from tracking me on TJ's site.

I rarely look at individual pages for the dragons so I think I will leave it on.

I think I figured it out. :) I mentioned it just above you. Thank you for the EasyList link though, I'm saving that and it seems super handy. I appreciate it!

Cool, glad you figured it out! EasyList is pretty handy, it blocks tons of stuff I could never figure out on my own.

I see that intermittently even though I use Adblock Plus on FF. I've also seen another one where it says something about 'here's some pictures of cats'. I just ignore it -- I hate looking at ads esp when they slow down my browser (and/or hit me with malware/viruses hidden in the ads -- this has happened even on clean sites including one that I mod!) so TJ can piss off. :p

I'll have to try the Flashblock trick too.
