Interesting how different it is for everyone. I didn't have much trouble catching Bloodscales and Blusangs, but I had no luck at all catching Thunders. All of mine except one have been gifted or traded for.
I mostly hunt on the xx:59h to xx:00h switch. Those first few seconds are the best, there's often good stuff and less people in the biomes. As soon as the clock switches to xx:01h I stop hunting.
