New egg speculation

Soooo ...

Looking at the news thread, some people are hatching their new eggs using EQ. And so far, even with eggs from both Alpine and Forest they've all hatched Green. So seems the biome caught in may not affect the color?

What'cha think? Color affected by time of day hatched or caught? Ones a hybrid? Other thoughts on what may affect the color you end up with when it hatches?

I really liked the S1 stage, it was really cute. I'm not as big a fan of S2. Looks like a begging dog, which is cute in a dog, but I want my dragons to look like dragons. :P

Interesting! Perhaps the yellows are breed-only alts? I caught all of mine at the same time, so if it's time of day, they'll all be the same color. I'll try catching the next batch at another time of day. (Although, by then, someone will probably have figured it out, so it may not be necessary.)

The fact that nobody has hatched a yellow one yet makes me suspect they're breed-only. If it's time of day, we should be in the yellow window now (if they're using 6 PM to 6 AM Cave time). Well, I'll be watching the News thread to see if anybody figures anything out -- I'm not going to EQ mine, so they won't hatch before tomorrow morning anyway.

Yeah, even if it were rare, you'd think somebody would have gotten one by now if they were CB, and I've seen nothing but greens in the fansites. I'm betting it's a breed-only alt. Guess now we have to wait until they grow up and we can breed some.

Somebody was suggesting it might be related to how long it takes to hatch, so incubating it would make it be green. The first non-incubated ones will be hatching in a couple of hours, so we'll see if that theory holds. (What if you only get yellow ones from holding them under three days... wonder how long it will take for somebody to figure that out? Heh. We're all too impatient! I caught an eighth egg after my first batch hatched, and didn't incubate it, so I might test it out with that one. )

I caught mine all at the same time, too, and the second batch as well. All green, from both biomes. I love the colour, but I'm very interested how we can get the yellow ones.

Me too! I've seen nothing but green ones in the fansites. I'm betting on a breed-only alt, but we'll see!

I caught all of mine at 4 am EST so we'll see if that makes any difference at all. IIRC, they were released at noon-ish EST, right?

I'm guessing it's a breed-only alt because as you've all pointed out, if it was some other factor, someone else would've had at least one, right?

I think they're kind of pretty and like the golds more than the greens. So we'll see how this pans out.

It seems like breeding is the only possible answer since all the other possibilities seem to have been ruled out. I'm not sure when people will start having adults -- mine just hatched about 12 hours ago, but I also didn't incubate them, and I got them very late. (And now they seem not to be dropping easily?)

I'll probably try breeding them with a mixture of everything just to see what happens. Hopefully someone will have an answer before then. This is frustrating, and TJ's probably off in a corner laughing madly at all the guess-work.
