OMG, I won something!

I just got an email saying I won something in the holiday raffle -- there was a link to a web page which told me I got a bronze tinsel. Probably my least favourite of all the prize dragons (much fonder of the shimmers, but it's a CB prize dragon!! *grins*). Custom codes are definitely still on offer -- just hoping/praying my response went through because once I clicked on the 'confirm' button, I got redirected to the Holiday gift page. Other winners are saying the same thing, so hopefully this means we all get our babies.

No big surprise that I'm already being PMed over on the Forum. I've never done this kind of breeding/trading before, so if anyone has any advice, I'll be happy to take it. I'll also be happy to trade with people here ASAP. Other than a CB gold female and a CB green copper female (for my mom), I don't even know what I want!

Ugh, yeah. I would probably add a line to my signature that I don't answer PMs, and then let my inbox get so full that it's maxed out and all other PMs bounce.

I just put a big notation at the bottom of my sig saying not to PM me about my prize dragon because I am not responding at this time. I had three people who did ask first, and I will consider them when I'm ready to deal with it.

I'm reading a very helpful thread over on the Forum about prize winners etc, but one of the things they keep stressing is "don't trade for CB metals and CB NDs because those are easy to get". This after saying "don't let anyone tell you what to do with your prize". LOL Am I stupid in that other than other 2G prize dragons, low-level Yules, or progeny from spriters' alts, what IS there that's rarer than NDs or CB metals/coppers?

Oh, people. You can trade for whatever you want, you can abandon or gift your offspring, or never breed your price at all. If you want to trade for metals or NDs, do so. I know people who have played for five years and still haven't managed to catch or trade for a CB Gold, so fuck their "easy to get". Trade for what you want to have, not for things others tell you you should want.

I expect some people will try to gift you things just so you feel compelled to reciprocate. Enjoy your price, and try not to let anyone pressure you or talk you into anything.

Yeaaaaah. Those "easy to get" people are welcome to saunter in and pick me up a couple! PFft. Or just tell me what the trick is, that'd be okay, too. Because there seems to be one - I sure do see a few people making frequent trade posts with multiple CB Metals on offer! Whereas I think I've caught two CB Golds in my entire time playing, and five CB Silvers? (Maybe fewer - it's kinda hard to remember what's been gifted/traded versus caught, at this point.)

Oh, I know what I can do. It's just funny that there's already rules on what you SHOULD do, even if it's the form of helpful advice. (Obviously not actual rules, but...)

If those things were that easy to get, I'd have more of them (or in the case of NDs ONE), so yeah, gimme a break. I've honestly never had anything that people wanted to trade for (in terms of rare things), so this is a boon for me.

I can't even imagine being that ballsy in terms of just giving someone gifts in hopes it would coerce them to do stuff for me. That's just...yeah. They can certainly try! Of course, I'm evil enough that if someone "gifted me" something and said "of course, you don't have to reciprocate, but...", I'd probably take that literally. ;)

Most important would probably not to over-commit to trades requests. :p I did that and then had to hand over my account to a friend to help me continue breeding regularly to fulfil trade promises because I got busy; until now I don't know if I still owe eggs to anyone. >_>;

CB metals are fairly valuable to accept in trade, because even 2G metals will be of relatively high trade value to most people. You could ask for holiday offspring, though the specific window period of breeding may be tricky.

I believe ZzelaBusya seems to possess some magical ability to catch CB metals, and is always looking for 2G Prize offspring. You could contact them, if CB metals and other low-gen prize dragons are what you're looking to collect!

Right now, I've made no promises to anyone. The people that PMed me were thanked, and I said I'd see once I got the egg, and figured out what I wanted to do. Right now, I haven't even got my baby, and probably want to play a bit to see how easy it is to breed him/her etc. I usually keep the first egg from a pairing for myself anyway.

I kept all those PMs and have a vague list of 'will get back to them when I'm ready to deal with that'. Luckily it's all of four people at the moment. I'm so sorry you were so overwhelmed! :(

Thanks for the rec -- I will contact her if/when I get some progeny to trade for. It must be nice to have that magical ability -- I lost my knack for that (which was never good) years ago!

Prize dragons Do Not Breed Well, especially early on when the new winners are all trying to breed them. :( That's the most stressful part of promising trades.

Yeah, that totally makes sense. I'm just going to be zen about it, and pray I don't have a totally sterile dragon! With my luck, that's what will happen!

As dancing_serpent says: It's your dragon, do whatever you want and particularly don't let anybody guilt trip you. I also read last year about people randomly gifting nice things to price winners so then they'd feel like they had to reciprocate.

It's so strange to me that people could have that kind of chutzpah, you know? Then again, I had someone PM me with "congratulations, and then a long spiel on why I should trade with them" *after* I specifically asked people not to PM me. I think it's someone whose name I've seen around, so I wasn't rude, but sheesh. Gimme a break. MY fault for being excited and sharing the news, I guess. I was half asleep (it was 7:30 am or something when I received the email), and just wanted to share it with people who would care. The one positive is that my Forum name is a variant on my scroll name, and I've taken down all links to my scroll, so hopefully that'll keep things from getting too nuts.

Also, be careful accepting IOUs. I am still waiting for a ND I was promised in March 2013 (not that I am counting on ever getting it) and 3 Cassare or Carmine eggs from October 2014 (I've already caught more than those myself since). I am really not going to pursue either of those, but I don't understand why some people make promises they can't keep and others make promises they can't be bothered to keep. Your 2G dragons will be more valuable than whatever I was offering, and some people will be desperately begging for them.

It's nice to know the custom codes are staying and I hope you'll get the one you choose.

Honestly, I think the best thing you can do is not let anyone dictate for what or with who you trade. Taking a look to what is usually traded for is not a bad idea, but in the end what you're looking for/want is more important.

I hope I get the one I chose too. It's a variant on my screen name, so hopefully no one's taken it. TJ said that if the code we requested wasn't available, we'd get a random one. That kind of sucks -- it would've been nice if we could've gotten like a second or third choice. But it's not a huge deal overall. :)

I'm going to take my time in trading with people. I am happy to work with people here because everyone's been so nice and helpful over the years, and I don't take the game too seriously. :)

I am so weirdly proud that a dragcaver won a raffle prize! :D :D


Personally, I am pretty, let's just say, mercenary? So if I had a CB Prize, I would keep it regardless of what it was, just because its potential as a trade item can't possibly equal its potential to produce trade fodder: no matter how much you ask for it, it's going to be a lot less than you can get for a dozen 2nd-gens!

I'd totally hold on to it for a while, breed some offspring for myself to determine which combos I liked best, and let the Forum people wait. Give everyone a PM saying you're not interested in trading at this time, and let 'em forget about it for a while - plenty of other people, I bet, will be eagerly trying to trade 2nd gen offspring from their new prizes, after all.

Once you've got more of a feel for what combos you like - or just find that the general frenzy is dying down - then I'd breed a 2nd-gen and offer it for trade, or offer IOUs of same via PM.

But if you do really want to get rid of it and not keep it, I'd ask for *multiple* CB metals! I'll see if I can't find a source for what the last known traded CB Prize went for, to help you out!

I'm pretty sure one of us won last year too. :) I am still in a bit of shock -- I never win anything! (Maybe this means I'll have won something in the $194 Million dollar lottery too?)

You can't trade the prize eggs this year. TJ said you can abandon them, but they're not tradeable. Not that I would for close to anything (ok, maybe 194 million dollars...*grins*). It's a prize, I won it, and even if it was something as common as dirt, I would love it just because it was a prize/gift. :)

I will be breeding it/trading offspring for stuff, but just not sure what the going rates are. I don't want to seem greedy, but also don't want to just give them away, esp if I don't know who I'm trading with so *they* can get far more than what I'd want, you know? I'm definitely going to play with breeding a bit for myself. From what I'm reading, some people say that prize dragons are less likely to breed, so anything I get will be important. I dunno -- I have a lot of high level and/or messy prize dragons, and they've mostly bred eventually. The shimmers seem to be less prolific, so I have no idea. :)

I can't imagine anyone not keeping their prize egg regardless. I remember when there was a huge furor over people freezing their hatchlings or abandoning them entirely. But hey, it's their gift - they can do what they want. Me, I'm clinging to this one with all my might. :)
