How did it turn out for you? I caught quite a few Gemshards, but so far Red is definitely the minority on my scroll. This is how it looks for me:

Blue 9
Green 8
Red 2

I still have four unhatched eggs on my scroll, but by now I have started offering on colour swap trades to even out the result.

I got really lucky. Out of my initial 12 Gems, I got 4 Blues, 5 Greens, and 3 Reds. I only had to swap two (Blue male for Blue female, Green male for Red female) to get 2 pairs of each color. Then I grabbed one extra, which turned out to be Blue. So I'm pretty much done collecting Gemshards.

I saw someone else mention that Red seemed to be the least common color. But then someone else popped up and said they had way more Reds than anything else. So I don't know if it was coincidence, or if Red really is slightly less common. But there seem to be plenty of everything to go around. I had no trouble trading my extra Green for a Red.

I was able to catch four at the original drop, which I influenced as pairs and ended up with 3 Blues, 1 Red. And since then I've had zero luck catching anymore at all.

I would like to end up with mates for the odd Blue and Red, and I would love some Greens as well. I don't feel a need to collect a lot of them, but I do want to add a few more so I have maybe a couple pairs of each color.

I have to say, these three coloured dragons begin to annoy me ;D
They get picked up SO quickly, unbelievable - well, I AM happy that they still drop and aren't very rare!, though.

I haven't been very active on DC lately(ok, let's say 'not very active on the internet'..the only thing I am doing on my PC is Flight Rising and a bit DC apart from working), but I have: 3 blue, 4 green and 1 red Gemshard. And I had motivation today to watch the Jungle biome for over an hour and picked up 5 new Gemshards. Two misclicks got auto-abandoned, my Vampires and the other dragons on my scroll were nice to me today.

I have only very few gemshards, so results might be skewed. atm I have 3 green and one blue, no reds. I also have a gender problem... :|

5 Green
3 Red
2 Blue

at least one pair of each colour.

I haven't seen them falling at all now, so wondering how rare they'll be.

Any ideas about breeding patterns? Random or do purebreds breed true? (Meaning two reds = 1 red, two blues = 1 blue, two greens = 1 green)

Whenever I go on DC (like a few minutes ago), I don't see any gemshards falling at all. It's just the same super common things. Hopefully they won't be rare so I can catch more later.

I'm just curious about the breeding. I should try it myself, but I'm lazy.
