Birthday Dragons, with Spoilers

Let's have a post for working out the mechanics of obtaining all the new eggs! I've been editing my initial post a bit, but then I thought it might be better to have an official "here be spoilers" post for anyone who prefers to work things out for themselves.



New dragon breeds
New peachy Floret variety: catch them in the Jungle!

New purple hybrid: Confirmed - RoyalCrimson x RoyalBlue. )

New dragon sprites

Three new alts for Gemshards: speculation suggests colour may now be determined by day of the week, with one day for each of the six colours and one day where colour is random.

New pink Sapphire alt: Confirmed - created by abandoning an egg. (Link to Abandoned egg)

New yellow Sapphire alt: speculation suggests the yellow alt happens when an egg reaches ~4000 or 4100 views.

Two new BSA-based alts for Cantormaris Wyverns: Earthquake (Green Dragon BSA) gives the green alt, Ward (White Dragon BSA) gives the white alt.

New alt for Electrics: seems to involve Stunning the hatchling; anyone have confirmation?

New alt for Nilia Pygmies: use Fertility (Purple Dragon BSA) on both parents before breeding.
* Note: alt!Nilias can breed regular Nilia eggs, and may do so every time Fertility isn't used on both parents; experiments required. :)

New alt for Coppers: some comments on the Forums seem to suggest it's obtained by breeding Thunders to Coppers; need more information for whether gender influences it, and/or other electric-aligned breeds also produce the alt!

New alts for all varieties of Floret: more information needed! (Apparently some were obtained in a Cave glitch but reverted to peach Florets because, according to TJ, 'they weren't possible yet' - possibly tied to moon phase, then?)



Where possible I've linked dragons I produced myself as confirmation of breeding/mechanics. Share your discoveries, experiments, failures, and successes in the comments if you're interested in working out these new challenges.

Additional info: New Copper alt, new Cantor alts

According to some comments in the DC Forum, and confirmed by poking through hatcheries, it looks like at least four breeds can produce the "shiny" Copper alt: Astrapi, Bolt, Electric, and Thunder. There may be others!

To get the 'shadow' of the new Cantor alts to appear on your Encyclopedia page, use Ward and Earthquake on a Cantor egg. I think it works even if Earthquake kills the egg, and presumably works even if you go on to incubate/otherwise change the outcome of the Cantor egg you Warded. I bred a random Cantor to test it, and the shadow appeared as soon as I Warded the egg, and didn't disappear after I abandoned the egg.

I bred a ton of Coppers yesterday, mostly with Thunders, but also with Bolt, Elecric, and Astrapi, and didn't get a single shiny Copper. Oh well, try again next week. (I've got more Coppers but got tired of breeding.)

Bought four Cantos from the Market and Earthquaked them. Three of them died, one survived and presumably turned green. Also caught a Canto on the AP and warded it. It hatched this morning and appears to be white.

Haunted the AP for hours yesterday looking for Pink Sapphires, but didn't see any. Maybe I'll breed some Sapphires today.

Consensus on the forum seems to be that the Gemshard rotation is (based on laid/stolen date):
Sunday - random
Monday - Green
Tuesday - Red
Wednesday - Blue
Thursday - Purple
Friday - Aqua
Saturday - Orange

I stunned my Electric hatchies but can't really tell by looking at them if they're any different from the regular ones -- especially since the sprite change.

Oooh, good to know! I saw a comment somewhere that suggested Sunday was the random day, but hadn't seen any speculation yet on which days go with which colours. I've got 1 Gemshard that should hatch today, for whatever data it's worth!

I'm waiting till my scroll clears before I try any Earthquakes, but I really want the White Cantors! *grabby hands* They are SO PRETTY.

I saw someone on the Forum say that when they Stunned two Electric hatchies at different stages, the S1 didn't change but the S2 did. Don't know if that means there isn't an alt!S1 hatchie, or if it means the hatchie has to be at S2 to turn alt... we'll see, I guess!

I caught a Pink Sapphire on the AP! So excited. I've seen a number of them go by this morning, but only managed to grab the one. (There's a Flamingo egg floating around the AP that I keep grabbing by mistake. It's clearly not a Sapphire, but my mind just reacts to "Pink!" and grabs it before I can stop myself.)

I picked up a CB Gemshard just now -- but if it's going to be green, as the data suggests, I don't need it, so I'll probably drop it later.

My Electric hatchies are still S1, so I guess I need to wait until they reach S2 to see if it worked.

Congrats! I've seen several of them but haven't caught any, and I have difficulty telling Pink Sapphire/Peach Floret/Bright Copper eggs apart still, so half the time I'm probably aiming for something other than what I thought I was clicking, anyway. :D

I was thinking about the Pink Sapphires while hunting the AP, though, and it occurred to me that nobody has mentioned whether you can abandon a Yellow Sapph to turn it pink, or view-load a Pink Sapph to turn it yellow, or whether the alt form is 'locked in' once you get it... So I'm trying to catch a Pink to experiment on, but I may have to breed my own.

At least when you misclick on the AP, you can throw it back right away!

I hope the Pinks don't turn Yellow if they get a lot of views -- I took my Pink Sapphire out of AoND after it hatched, just to make sure. Yellows I don't think will be too hard to get -- especially right now, with everybody trying to get the new eggs, the fansites will be pretty heavily used. (I'd grab a couple of Sapphire eggs from the Market, but I'm half-locked with dead Cantos and that one Gemshard, so I'm saving my spaces for AP/cave hunting. Oh, and I picked up a 2G White Zyu from Bronze Shimmer that I'm keeping, but it's ER and should hatch in a bit.

Maybe I'll go catch up on the Forum while I'm waiting for my dead Cantos to stop counting.

Definitely one of the best features of the AP! (I really wish they'd change the CB cooldown to 3 hours instead of 5; I know it's been suggested at various points.)

I'm currently reading the Earthquake Science thread with an eye to future green Cantors. Since I've used Earthquake maybe once before in my life, I need to know more before I risk any eggs!

Yeah, it's a pain to have to wait 5 hours to abandon a cave-caught egg. I think even one hour would be plenty. But I doubt TJ's going to change it at this point. I'll probably end up keeping the Gemshard I caught today anyway even though I don't need it. I've got the room, since I can't seem to catch any more Sapphires or Cantos and nobody's figured out how to get the rest of the new Florets yet.

I know EQ has a better chance of not killing eggs if you wait until they're near hatching. But I went ahead and EQ'd my Cantos right away anyway, heh. Too impatient to wait. I'll try again after my scroll clears up again. At least one of them survived. And there were people who waited and it killed all their eggs anyway, so you never know.

Couple of people on the forum said Pink Sapphires stayed Pink even if their views went over 4000. So they're probably not going to change. Whew! Don't want to lost the one Pink I managed to catch.

Once my ER eggs hatched and my dead Cantos stopped counting, I bought two Sapphire eggs to try to turn yellow, and bred my Sapphire dragons to get eggs to drop to the AP. I'm still AP hunting off and on, but haven't seen a Pink Sapphire in hours, so I think I'll take a break.

Any info on new Floret alts?

Has anyone figured out the mechanisms/combinations for the new lavender and puce Floret eggs? I haven't found any hints so far, but I'm noticing more of them in hatcheries, so it seems like people's experiments are succeeding...

Anyone else had any successes (or failures) with the new alts?
