Uhm, opinions?

So, I got this one here. It's my first bronze Shimmer, so yay! I'm not so sure what to think about that lineage, though. It looks interesting, sure...but well, what do you think of deadlines? Do you think they are pretty? Or that it's cheating, somehow? Or something else? Would you try continuing the lineage?

Well, I wouldn't say it is cheating, because there are no rules against it in Dragon Cave. Lineages are very personal, some people don't like stair lineages because they are easier than even generations, some other only like purebreds or caveborns. The important thing is to make sure you specify the lineage when trading.

Having said that, I would value a deadline dragon less than an original line of a similar gen, but probably more than the same dragon with a long messy lineage.

You can breed it and put the offspring up on dragonmarket to see what kind of offers you get.

I actually like deadlines, but I prefer when both ancestors have tombstones instead of only one, since that does feel a little like an easy way to get a shorter lineage.

Even so, I still value deadlines of any kind more than long messy lineages and I would continue a deadline if I got one. But then I like to continue lineages as long as they're clean, not matter if it's spiral or stair or EG or PB.

I definitely like it better when both ancestors have tombstones, too. Hm...maybe I can experiment with that one - continue the lineage two steps further and then make a new deadline out of the ones I bred. *g*

Congrats on your Shimmer!

I'm not a huge fan of deadlines, but it's all a matter of taste. I don't think it's "cheating" -- anybody can see the tombstone and nowadays even the lineage behind it. Shimmers are still rare enough that any Shimmer is going to be of some value, so if it were mine, sure I'd breed it, at least until I got something whose lineage I liked better.

I actually did a deadline from a couple of messy inbred tinsels and silvers, back when the lineages disappeared with the tombstones: the final result was this silver tinsel. I just did it for my own amusement, and have never tried to trade any of the dragons from the line, so I have no idea what anyone else would think it's worth.

Oh, that's beautiful! So you can't see the lineage behind it with the older deadlines, but with the newly created you can? Ugh - that might actually be a reason for me to offer it up for trade again.

That's a shame, it was a nice lineage up until that last wrong gender pairing.

I'm not against deadlines, especially now that you can click on the tombstone and see the full lineage anyway. And I don't see them as cheating. I don't do them mainly because I got rid of all the super messy ones I got years back as a hoarding noobie and only breed or collect things that I like. The few messy ones I did keep for sentimental reasons, I place at the back of my scroll, and never look at. *grin*

And as an aside, I have that same lineage. http://dragcave.net/lineage/DbejY Sadly, it was a Glomp gift and my first and only Shimmer, and both my Shadowwalkers are male. I have no clue why I only grabbed 2 when they dropped, my brain must have thought they were like other holidays and had a limit. It's mate now is a Lurker, and people still offer trades for it. :P

Yeah, TJ recently changed it so that lineages aren't deleted when dragons die, so you can always click on the tombstone and see the lineage of the killed dragon. There's been a lot of complaining about it, so he might change it back at some point, but who knows?

I suppose I have mixed feelings on them. I don't favour them as much as an unbroken lineage; there is a sense of 'this person took the easy way out' (to get a nice-looking lineage), but on the other hand? It *can* be prettier than an untrimmed messy lineage, so it's visually nice (especially one like yours, where the 'break' gives it both a nice size and a very consistent look)!

I seem to be the odd one out here on the 'how many tombstones' issue, too; I think I prefer only a single tombstone. Two just looks like... neglect? Tragedy? Ruthlessness? Even more murky/messy breeding? Maybe I just like seeing the breed of at least one of the 'original' pair. :D

As to whether I'd try to continue the line... "absolutely!" if you mean simply continuing the stair with more Pillows, but I don't think I'd ever try to make a deadline of my own.

I too feel two tombstones look like tragedy; I always put "Orphan" in the name of such dragons ^^"

I think deadlines are okay. I only find those annoying that kill off/zombify every shimmer/tinsel in the line. like, where's the point?

It is visually nice like that, that's why I accepted trade (apart from the "Bronze Shimmer, yay" feeling). But I really don't like that one can still see the original lineage of the tombstone (which I didn't knew before), so...have traded it away again.

Hm...I haven't seen the end results for those lineages, so I have no idea about that. Have to admit, I was a bit shocked when I encountered the first killed Tinsel - and now Shimmer, too.

well i wouldn't kill a tinsel or shimmer because they're too hard to get for me. but if someone else wants to do it, why not. the first time around I was shocked too. but I was even more shocked when someone got that cb shimmer from the raffle and froze the hatchie? :O i might freeze/kill a lineaged rare but a cb?

Yeah, it wouldn't have occurred to me to freeze a CB Shimmer hatchie.

I noticed a couple of days ago one of mine also got a deadline, saddened me, because I really don't understand why peoople do that, and also because it's offspring (5G) would hopefully help me get some rares on my scroll - now it seems worthless :(
