Favourites?
May. 31st, 2013 01:15 pmSo, the Day 7 dragons grew up on TJs scroll, and I'm curious what you think about the whole birthday release. Which are your favourites, which ones didn't you like so much? Do you have any breeding plans for them already?
My own favourites are the Bloodscales, the Black Capped Teimarr and the Coppers. No breeding plans yet, I first want to catch all my usual CB pairs.
I'm not so fond of the Black Teas, the Black Tips and the Seragamma - and I don't care at all for the Hellhorses. But I like a "complete" scroll, so I'm going to collect/breed all of them as well.
As a general thought, I was surprised how well the seven day release worked for me. Huge part of the reason were the incubates and skipping the hybrid for now - even with catching more than two eggs I had always room on my scroll for the next new egg.

Date: 2013-05-31 03:50 pm (UTC)As for the others, hm. The Black Caps are kind of meh, to me. The colors are nice but the dragons aren't anything special for me. I like the Bloodscales, but they'll only breed with Splits, which I like, but I don't think they go very well together. So, it's purebreds or nothing, until someone makes a new 2-headed dragon. I really like the Black Teas -- I love that reddish color, and I like their bold and well-defined contours.
The Coppers are really attractive, but I'm waiting to see how they breed -- if they throw random colors, the way the Dorsals and Ridgewings and Nebulas do, I probably won't try to do any lineage projects with them, unless maybe purebreeds. It's hard enough breeding dragons without having to try to get the right color! And they look to be uncommon, at least, although maybe they'll be more available once the initial frenzy has died down. I did manage to get my four CBs of the brown ones, and two of the reds, but only one green, which I think is my favorite color. I haven't seen a single one in the biomes since their first day, but I traded for two and caught one in the AP.
Let's see, then the Blacktips and Seragamma, neither of them really catch my eye, but maybe I'll feel differently once they grow up on my scroll. :)
I ended up with at least three of each, and have since caught my 4th Black Tea, Black Cap, and Seragamma. (Too many new dragons starting with "Black"! Too confusing.) Still need one more Bloodscale and Blacktip, and more red and green Coppers.
The release went all right, I guess. I have endless incubates and influences, so I was able to stuff my scroll to its limits. I now wish I hadn't kept the one Hellhorse I bred and caught one more Teimarr on Day 4, so I'd have had 6 open slots instead of 4 for the Coppers. Then I could have gotten 1 pair of each color to start with. But at the time, it was hard to tell how easy they'd be to catch later, so I just kept the four.
The Javascript thing and all the lag frustrated the heck out of me. Overall, I think I found it all more stressful than enjoyable. Okay for a once a year thing, but I'm glad it's over now!

Date: 2013-05-31 04:21 pm (UTC)Yeah, I mostly like the Black Caps for the colours, and the pattern on the wings of the females. Could see myself doing a checker of female Black Cap x male Tri-Horn sometime in the future.
I'm really hoping for more two headed dragons now, because I love the Bloodscales a lot. And like you, I don't think they go well together with the Splits. Style too different, colour too similar. Too much/not enough contrast all at once.
I definitely like the green Coppers best. But yeah, same thoughts on breeding behaviour. I'm having enough stress with my purebred Red Dorsal project, I don't need another one that might be even worse. Haven't seen one in the biomes, either - missed a couple on the AP, though.
I definitely had enough incubates - what surprised me a bit was that I almost was short on influences. Had I not had less luck with the Coppers - only got four altogether, 1 brown, 1 red, 2 green (so I only influenced the greens) - I would have run out. Memo to myself, stock up on Pinks.
