Favourites?
May. 31st, 2013 01:15 pmSo, the Day 7 dragons grew up on TJs scroll, and I'm curious what you think about the whole birthday release. Which are your favourites, which ones didn't you like so much? Do you have any breeding plans for them already?
My own favourites are the Bloodscales, the Black Capped Teimarr and the Coppers. No breeding plans yet, I first want to catch all my usual CB pairs.
I'm not so fond of the Black Teas, the Black Tips and the Seragamma - and I don't care at all for the Hellhorses. But I like a "complete" scroll, so I'm going to collect/breed all of them as well.
As a general thought, I was surprised how well the seven day release worked for me. Huge part of the reason were the incubates and skipping the hybrid for now - even with catching more than two eggs I had always room on my scroll for the next new egg.

Date: 2013-05-31 11:34 am (UTC)Collecting them was quite smooth during the release week, thanks to the incubates and getting up at stupid o'clock in the mornings just to click on eggs, but because I collect so many of each breed I still need to catch trade a lot of them. The three versions of the Coppers didn't help at all.
Something that I find slightly annoying at the moment is the ilogical or unnecessarily complicated/long names of some new breeds - Black Capped Teimarr? it is the only Teimarr, why do you need to add Black Capped (and what is a Teimarr, while we are at it?)? Black Tea? Gilded Bloodscale is at least descriptive and Copper is nice, short and to the point, but some of the others are just pretentious. */rant*

Date: 2013-05-31 11:50 am (UTC)I'm always up at stupid o'clock on workdays, so that worked out just fine. But with this release I noticed I had a lot more luck three/four hours after the initial release started.
I'm far from complete, too. Have a lot more to catch still, as I'm usually collecting four CB pairs of each breed/alt. Not sure I manage to get them all before the next new release, even if we have to wait until July now.

Date: 2013-05-31 01:59 pm (UTC)I never initially had room on my scroll for the new eggs and always had to wait for something to hatch. XD I still don't have the one Copper egg but I'll worry about it later! I really enjoyed these releases anyway, they were kind of exciting. XD

Date: 2013-05-31 02:14 pm (UTC)But then I don't like most hybrids in general - they "force" me to breed dragons I've never even considered breeding in the first place, just for the sake of a "complete" scroll.
*sigh* The Black Teas...the egg is so pretty, but the adult is rather disappointing.
Definitely exciting! I'm not really going to worry about getting all my CB pairs - with so many new eggs I already know it will take some time.

Date: 2013-05-31 03:50 pm (UTC)As for the others, hm. The Black Caps are kind of meh, to me. The colors are nice but the dragons aren't anything special for me. I like the Bloodscales, but they'll only breed with Splits, which I like, but I don't think they go very well together. So, it's purebreds or nothing, until someone makes a new 2-headed dragon. I really like the Black Teas -- I love that reddish color, and I like their bold and well-defined contours.
The Coppers are really attractive, but I'm waiting to see how they breed -- if they throw random colors, the way the Dorsals and Ridgewings and Nebulas do, I probably won't try to do any lineage projects with them, unless maybe purebreeds. It's hard enough breeding dragons without having to try to get the right color! And they look to be uncommon, at least, although maybe they'll be more available once the initial frenzy has died down. I did manage to get my four CBs of the brown ones, and two of the reds, but only one green, which I think is my favorite color. I haven't seen a single one in the biomes since their first day, but I traded for two and caught one in the AP.
Let's see, then the Blacktips and Seragamma, neither of them really catch my eye, but maybe I'll feel differently once they grow up on my scroll. :)
I ended up with at least three of each, and have since caught my 4th Black Tea, Black Cap, and Seragamma. (Too many new dragons starting with "Black"! Too confusing.) Still need one more Bloodscale and Blacktip, and more red and green Coppers.
The release went all right, I guess. I have endless incubates and influences, so I was able to stuff my scroll to its limits. I now wish I hadn't kept the one Hellhorse I bred and caught one more Teimarr on Day 4, so I'd have had 6 open slots instead of 4 for the Coppers. Then I could have gotten 1 pair of each color to start with. But at the time, it was hard to tell how easy they'd be to catch later, so I just kept the four.
The Javascript thing and all the lag frustrated the heck out of me. Overall, I think I found it all more stressful than enjoyable. Okay for a once a year thing, but I'm glad it's over now!

Date: 2013-05-31 04:21 pm (UTC)Yeah, I mostly like the Black Caps for the colours, and the pattern on the wings of the females. Could see myself doing a checker of female Black Cap x male Tri-Horn sometime in the future.
I'm really hoping for more two headed dragons now, because I love the Bloodscales a lot. And like you, I don't think they go well together with the Splits. Style too different, colour too similar. Too much/not enough contrast all at once.
I definitely like the green Coppers best. But yeah, same thoughts on breeding behaviour. I'm having enough stress with my purebred Red Dorsal project, I don't need another one that might be even worse. Haven't seen one in the biomes, either - missed a couple on the AP, though.
I definitely had enough incubates - what surprised me a bit was that I almost was short on influences. Had I not had less luck with the Coppers - only got four altogether, 1 brown, 1 red, 2 green (so I only influenced the greens) - I would have run out. Memo to myself, stock up on Pinks.

Date: 2013-05-31 05:17 pm (UTC)I really like the Bloodscales and hope we don't have to wait another 7 years for a third two-headed dragon. They don't really fit in with the splits, esp personality-wise, so I'd like to see other variants.
I love the Coppers, esp the greens, and like everyone else, I haven't seen a single one in any biome since the day they dropped. My mom gave me her one green so I could have complete pairs of all three. We figured we'd get her another pair, and now... yeah. Oh well, I can always try to breed 'em for her.
I also like the Black Tea dragons although the name is silly. Why not just Tea dragons? (Esp since they're red). I think the hatchlings are actually too cutesy, but they grow up pretty. The eggs were far more promising than the actual dragon though. Something with that red/black pattern would've been much nicer. I also like the Hellhorses, but I also am very fond of the Hellfires and the Horses (although I wish there were other colour schemes for those). I was also grateful for a hybrid pair in the middle of things just to get one day of rest. I waited to breed them until yesterday.
I'm not that crazy about the Black Caps, the Black Tips or the Seragamma. They're not horrible (like the Olives or the Sulfurs for me), but they don't really inspire me to want more. Plus like
I used influence and incubate on nearly all of them. Of course, now it seems like it's taking forever for the pinks to reset, and I need desperately need one for a tinsel I picked up on the Forum (and it's not something I can trade for in the 'wrong gender' thread). Eep!

Date: 2013-05-31 05:23 pm (UTC)The Olives, oh my - to me they look a little bit like wood ticks. Another breed I'm not going to use for breeding unless someone requests a certain pairing.
Yeah, I'm a bit nervous having to wait until tomorrow to have the next influences back - I need to take care of a Soulpeace egg and I do tend to forget those things.

Date: 2013-05-31 06:05 pm (UTC)I have... 74 Pink dragons, so I never run short of influences. If anybody needs an egg influenced & hatched, I'd be happy to do it.

Date: 2013-06-01 05:24 am (UTC)right now, it seems impossible to catch much of anything. The cave and the AP are lagging so badly that I'm not catching anything I see (and it seems like its taking about 15-20 seconds to refresh the AP for me). Of course, my mom managed to catch a cheese for herself today without trying -- it told her it was already taken, but then it was there on her scroll, so go fig.
I may take you up on the bronze tinsel if my pink female doesn't come back fast enough and it looks like time is running out on it. I'm sitting on my mom's first bronze shimmerscale because she has so few pinks and ran out of influences, and she wanted it to gender correctly.

Date: 2013-06-01 05:20 am (UTC)The Olives are just awful. They look like squished olives to me -- but yeah, wood ticks are a good description too. I nabbed a pair when they first came out just to have them, but urgh, I don't want them!
I am going to be running my poor bronze down to the last minute and pray the pink I need to influence it comes back first. I'm such an idiot cos I thought I'd influenced it, then went and influenced my second (bred) Hellhorse which could have waited. If I'd had any brains at all, I'd have doublechecked first.

Date: 2013-06-01 09:10 am (UTC)Now, well, it's not that I see them all the time, like other breeds - but at least as often as I see the Trio eggs.

Date: 2013-05-31 06:54 pm (UTC)The ones I sort of like are the Coppers and Hellhorse. The Coppers I liked better as hatchies though. The adult males make me think of Gargoyles. And of the Hellhorses I only like the females, due to their color. Eventually I'll either breed or trade for a couple but I'm in no hurry. And I swear they look super familiar, especially the male. I keep thinking I've seen them before, and not on the forums. Like a cartoon series or old movie or something.
The Teas, I am so disappointed in. It was the only egg I collected 4 of at the drop because I loved the egg color. I am not liking the adults at all, so doubt I will breed them unless I see a lineage pairing I find really striking. The females remind me too much of the Rosebuds, which I really don't like. Something about the males just looks off to me.
The rest were ok, but I won't collect anymore and probably won't breed them either. Some seemed a bit undefined to me, lacking in detail. And agreed on the names. A bit over the top. I'm also bummed that out of all the awesome designs I've seen waiting for some love and recognition, he went with these. And, went with spriters already in the cave for the most part.
I was catching at around 2:15am cave time most nights so had no problem getting what I wanted. I went with 2 most nights, 4 on the Teas (Which I regret), 4-5 on the Coppers (All browns, which I traded the next day for pairs), then 3 on the last night. I created a Red army a while back, so I can incubate as much as needed for a two week span and not run out, same on Pinks. Well, I have fewer Pinks since they return to work in just a week, versus the Reds two week downtime. I was tired of breeding my pairs so took a break and only bred or traded for Reds and Pinks till I had all I needed.
ETA - The other bad thing about this drop... names. Not as in their names, but needing to name so many all at once. I'm not the best at names to begin with, and now I have hatchies all over the place. EEP!

Date: 2013-05-31 07:21 pm (UTC)*g* I have no problems with dragon names. a) I always start with DS, so even if the names are taken I've got a good chance - and b) mostly I name my dragons after places in Scotland. Lots and lots of choices there.

Date: 2013-06-01 02:16 am (UTC)LOVE:
+bloodscale
+female hellhorse
+blue-green copper (female slightly more than male)
REALLY LIKE:
+serragamma
+male teimarr
+reddish copper
OKAY:
+female teimarr
+male hellhorse
+brownish copper
NOT SO MUCH:
+black tea
Overall, I enjoyed it, but I could wish for a little more colour variety - I felt like there was an overabundance of red/pink dragons, and those aren't colours I'm particularly drawn to.
I agree about the names, too; what is a "Teimarr" and when are we getting another one, since apparently it requires an epithet? (And - my inner grammarian demands to know - why "Black Capped" instead of "Black-capped"? They aren't black, just their caps are, so this seems like a dragon that skipped the proofreading stages.) Why "black tea" dragons instead of "tea" dragons, especially since, while tea smells nice to me and I certainly drink a lot of it, it's not something I really associate with butterflies? When I think of butterfly lures, I think of floral or fruity scents, so why the oddly specific yet vague name? (Also, which I haven't seen anyone else mention yet: why "Copper Dragons" when they're wyverns?!)
Possible breeding... Well, despite my minimal interest, I do think a Rosebud/Black Tea and Heartseeker/Black Tea lineage would be neat! And I think some of the Coppers would look really good paired with Spitfires. I kind of want to like the Bloodscales less than I do, because of the limited breeding opportunities; maybe I'll construct a naming pattern to make breeding worthwhile?
I really need some more Coppers, too! I think I got the most of the boring-est ones. :D MOAR Green Coppers (haha, can we call them "Verdigris Dragons"?) shall become my rallying cry. Wouldn't mind a few more Teimarrs, either. And I need to breed Mum some female Hellhorses to go with her female Hellfires, since she doesn't have any Horsedragons to breed her own with.

Date: 2013-06-01 09:16 am (UTC)Yeah, I rather like red - am not so fond of pink, though. I'm more the blues and greens type, both online and in analogue life. *g*
And nope, not associating tea with butterflies either. But then, I usually don't pay attention to the descriptions and breed information on the adults. Mostly I don't even read past the names.
Hee...yeah, a naming pattern for a purebred Bloodscale lineage could make things interesting. Because I love the Bloodscales a lot, and I really don't want to breed them with the Splits.

Date: 2013-06-01 06:24 am (UTC)I had some issues catching because of the new javascript requirement. Even when other parts of the site weren't lagging significantly for me, my loading times would get terrible with that on... I had some important things happening that required my being out all day (and through the night) too, sometimes, so I couldn't always get on when I liked, but I managed to trade for most of what I missed.
I still need the "orange"/"natural" Copper color, so I'm just trying to get a breeding pair of those... Once I get those, I probably won't collect any more CB Coppers for a good long while.

Date: 2013-06-01 09:23 am (UTC)The S1 is something I don't really take all that seriously, but I agree on the Hellhorses and Coppers - weird/ugly S1 sprites. I'm still going to freeze one S1 hatchling each, for the sake of having a "complete" scroll. *g*

Date: 2013-06-02 12:47 am (UTC)Yeah, if something has to look weird or ugly, it might as well be the S1 -- and I also plan to do the same, getting them for completeness' sake... but I'll probably put it off for a good while! |D
