Lineage Projects, Holidays, Welcome
Dec. 8th, 2018 08:02 pmWelcome, any and all new Dreamwidth users!
How's breeding going for everyone on your various lineage projects? I just had a 'no egg' attempt on my latest effort, but at least it wasn't a refusal. As soon as they do produce an egg, I'll be done with my Firemage lineage project!
What are your breeding plans for the upcoming holiday? Is anyone looking for holiday mates, or planning to try out a new cross this year? Post your ideas or wishes! Anyone want to guess what the new holiday breed will look like? :D If the pattern holds true, it'll be female this year; I'm hoping for something silvery or green, but wondering if maybe we'll go back to red at last? So far all of our red holiday breeds have been male, so a female would be nice!

Date: 2018-12-09 06:57 am (UTC)Ooh, the Firemage lineage is really pretty -- what a great combination of colors!
I've recently bred my 7g PB blusang from a lineage where I own all the CBs (and am continuing to slowly work towards building a mate for my 10g PB blusang. Only a couple hundred more eggs to go XP
For the holidays, I need to figure out what I want to do with the Garlands. They're actually the first holiday dragon I've liked since the Solstices, so I might actually have to do some holiday breeding this year. I saw someone breeding them with striped rivers, which is lovely, but almost TOO similar. And this is also my first year with a CB Holly, so I should probably decide what to do with him, too... And I need to snag another CB Yulebuck so I can breed a checker with golds for that mate I've had languishing for a while.

I hadn't thought of that -- that would be nice!
I also wonder if we'll get another non-Western breed (Aegis was Wingless and Garlands Amphipter, I guess, so maybe a Wyrm? Pumpkins notwithstanding, hopefully something that can breed with the main dragon types, anyway.

Date: 2018-12-09 09:02 am (UTC)Sometimes I start to plan a lineage, then realise that there are zero blue dragons with orange accents in this game! I waited years to start this lineage - blue Firegems had to happen before I had a blue option to pair with Mageias.
Wow, 10G PB! That is crazy dedication. I don't think I've taken any EG lineage further than 6G, thus far, though I have a feeling that my 'Starlurker' lineage might get there eventually. (Purple Neb x CavernLurker)
"What to do with Garlands" is definitely on my mind, too! So far I know that I really like them paired with gold Heralds, and with Golds. They look great with Gaia Xenos, too, as I found out when someone requested this cross. :D I really like how that combo brings out the green in the Garland, so I might have to come up with a good green mate before Christmas breeding rolls around!
A Wyvern for the next holiday would be cool! I don't think we've had a holiday Wyvern yet...
You've also reminded me that I need to snag a CB Holly this year! Meant to do it last year and got distracted by shiny AP finds that made me run out of egg slots. :D Need to name my CB Yulebuck, too, as well as grab him a buddy!

Date: 2018-12-09 09:13 pm (UTC)Wow, 10G PB! That is crazy dedication.
I just really like blusangs at all stages, so am always happy to see the eggs and hatchlings on my scroll, and so keep breeding them.
I actually find PB even-gens much easier to breed than checkers because as long as you get an egg, it's the right egg :), so I can sort of chip away at them at my leisure, with minimal frustration. The blusangs -- and I also have PB gold wyvern lineages that are at 7g fully self-bred / 10g and building a mate -- are my background project where, honestly, the hardest thing is keeping track in a giant spreadsheet to make sure I don't introduce any inbreeding.
Thanks for the Garland suggestions! They do look lovely with the golds and gold lunars, but I especially love the gaia combination -- I think I'm going to do that! (the terra mate lineage you linked below is also lovely, but gaias are some of my very favorite sprites, so that's going to be hard to beat for me).
And, ooh, a holiday Wyvern! that would be cool! -- and I guess we already got a holiday Wyrm with Omens and a holiday Eastern with Heartstealers, but I also can't think of a holiday Wyvern anywhere across the holidays...

Date: 2018-12-09 09:40 pm (UTC)It.... kiiiind of is? It's, like, medium-hard to me, though, because it could be so much worse. (Neb x Valentine would be easier, as you don't have to manipulate the Valentines' genders. Neb x Lunar Herald, or a Neb x holiday with alternating colours, would be harder.)
Although I once saw somebody with a Nebula x Gemshard checker project called something like "this is why I cry at night" or something, and laughed so hard. THAT is true dedication to hard mode there!
PB even-gens much easier to breed than checkers because as long as you get an egg, it's the right egg :)
This is true! It's kinda how I feel about holiday checkers, too; they're nice because for the most part (barring things like Nebs/Lunars/Florets/Firegems) you either get no egg, or the right egg.
I'm trying not to talk myself into a Garland/Gaia lineage on top of all the others I like, but if I pick one up in the AP let's face it, I'm going to give in. :D
If you want to see the Starlurkers, here's the highest gen thus far, and here's the complete list of everybody involved! It was going to stop at 5G, and then at 6G, but I keep ending up with spare lower-gens and then I feel bad about not using them, so the goal goes higher. :D So I'm always looking for new blood - and for miscolored purple Nebs to freeze as group dividers.
Wyvern holiday would be a nice, since TJ seems to be branching out on holiday body types - as you noted, we've had a wyrm and an Eastern, and Garlands are amphipteres, so why not a wyvern? Though a sea serpent would also be fun and original!
I would name them all after the 'I Saw Three Ships' Christmas Carol, naturally.no subject
Date: 2018-12-09 10:14 pm (UTC)Ahaha XD Yeah, after I made that comment, I was thinking of what the most frustrating checker to breed would be, and gemshard x nebula would be it, short of throwing black/vine alts in there. At least for me personally, because I'd rather get the wrong egg 10 times but at least know it's the wrong egg right away. Lunars and holidays and those lineages where people are trying to get specific other-breed xenos would certainly take longer, but it's so much less frustrating not having to wait for an egg to hatch, let alone mature.
but if I pick one up in the AP let's face it, I'm going to give in. :D
Ha, well, good luck! It is a pretty lineage!
And I like the Starklurker combination as well -- the purple accents on the Lurkers is what makes them one of my favorite Halloween breeds, and the purple nebs really bring it out.)

Oooh! Now I really hope it is a sea serpent!

Date: 2018-12-09 09:29 am (UTC)I'm so torn about the holiday. Last year, I messed up Solstice breeding time and got all blue Solstices that I didn't want. Which took me back a year with those lineages and now I'm meh about continueing.
But I also picked up a ton of 2nd gen Snows, and over the past year I've bread pretty much all of them into 3rd gens. For some of these lineages I would like to find a mate!
And then there are all those Enraged Aegis lineages that are a pain to continue, but I would really like to try. *sigh*
On the other hand, I really liked the Garlands, and might go AP hunting for 2nd gens this year.
All of that might be a moot point, though, because I will be spending Christmas with my dad, and not have much time for hanging around the cave. *g*

Date: 2018-12-09 08:15 pm (UTC)(I have Snow x silver Lunar, Snow x gold Lunar, Snow x White Zyu, & Snow x Sapphire thus far.)
I'll definitely be browsing for Garlands, too, and I've been tinkering around trying to figure out what I like them paired with, beyond Gold and gold Lunar. They look fabulous with Gaias, and I just got a friend to try with Terrae and really like that, too. I'm not as sure about my Fever cross, but it might grow on me? And I'm almost afraid that I like the Gemshard experiment I tried...
Hope you have fun with your dad! And that you at least have enough Cave time to snag the new release and pick up some interesting AP finds! :D

Date: 2018-12-09 08:31 pm (UTC)I really do have a lot of Snow lineages, but won't continue all of them. What I really like, though, are the following:
Script, Silver Herald, White Zyu, Gold Herald, Teimarr, Spinel, Silver, Moonstone and Monarch. So yes, there would be lineages we could swap - unless I happened to pick up an egg related to one of yours. *g*

Date: 2018-12-09 08:46 pm (UTC)Right now I have mostly Snow mates, waiting for me to breed/trade/acquire Snows to go with them! The upside of which is, I don't think any are related to yours, since I mostly bred them myself. :D
Do you need holiday or non-holiday swaps? I could breed a 3G Snow x Zyu as soon as an egg slot opens up, if you want to swap Zyus; or we oculd arrange to swap during the holiday breeding. Same for 3G Snow x gold Herald - next gold Lunar phase will begin 12-14, so we could try for a Herald swap then, or wait till the holiday.

Date: 2018-12-09 05:23 pm (UTC)Just in time, I finally finished breeding a mate for a 6EG Holly I picked up a couple of years ago! They're going to look like this! Heh. Probably no one will want them, the lineage is ridiculously huge, but it was fun building a mate for it.

Date: 2018-12-09 08:19 pm (UTC)Thanks for the kind words on Firemage! Now if only those 3Gs would cooperate with an egg... :D
Aside from a couple of old-school spirals and stairs, I don't have any Holly lineages I'm working on at all. Maybe this will be the year I catch CB Hollies, and then I'll have all of 2019 to come up with a project. :D Maybe I'll do something with a breed that was around for the original Holly release, as a callout to their 'Original Christmas Dragon' thing.

Date: 2018-12-10 05:25 pm (UTC)I do have a 4EG Holly x White checker, which was kind of the main pairing back when Hollies were super rare. Now that there are more CB Hollies around, I might try to continue it. (I own the parents and one set of grandparents, and can breed 2, 3, or 4G Hollies in that lineage.) And a 4EG Holly x Rosebud - when I caught it, I despaired of ever finding a mate for it, but now it might be possible.

Date: 2018-12-10 05:39 pm (UTC)Those PB Blusangs are awesome! I like doing PB EG lineages, too. My biggest one is my 7EG Storm. I'm currently collecting CBs to take it out to 8G. I've done 6Gs from all my own CBs of White, Black, Red, Pink, Magi, and Mint, and I've got the CBs to do several others. I like to give the oldest commons some love, they don't get enough these days, I don't think.

Date: 2018-12-10 06:54 pm (UTC)And I know what you mean about the old commons not getting much love anymore. I loved the White and Black dragons when I started playing in 2008 and collected a bunch, and have always found the Mints adorable (my first ever egg was a mint, so I'm very fond of them for that reason), but that was before lineages were visible, so while I bred them, they're all awfully messy. So I like that you're breeding pretty old commons to give them some love!
